Rattanakosin Chedi Samui

Above the Laem Sor Pagoda is a spectacular Wat Khao Chedi the Rattanakosin Chedi Samui. The Wat is located in the south of Koh Samui in Bang Kao. The pagoda on the Bang Kao Beach is visible from the Rattanakosin Chedi. Leaving the grounds of Laem Sor Pagoda 100 – 150 yards turn left and follow the road to the end. Approaching Rattanakosin Chedi Samui the road has steep inclines and a sharp bend.  At the bend in the road sound your horn and drive in low gear with caution. Park at the top of the road and walk up to Rattanakosin Chedi Samui. Hire a car or scooter the songthaews public transport does not operate in the Bang Kao area.

Grounds

There are steep steps to the Wat Khao Chedi temple grounds. There is a small shop selling refreshments at the temple. Rattanakosin is the baby buddha Jaidee. At the top of the steps, the grounds open out to reveal the enormity of Rattanakosin Chedi. The golden statues glisten against the striking white Chedi at Laem Sor. Surrounding the Chedi are small white buddhas in golden robes sitting in the traditional position. A monk statue sits with his pupils teaching the word of Buddha and Buddhist culture. Hidden in the trees at Wat Khao Chedi are statues of animals and an old man. The views from Khao Chedi are magnificent of the neighbouring islands Koh Taen and Koh Madsum.

Temple Etiquette at Rattanakosin Chedi Samui

Rattanakosin Chedi Samui is not a traditional temple. The Chedi is a place of worship for the locals. Dress appropriately to respect the locals who worship at the Chedi.

• Keep the noise level to minimum.
• Do not touch the statues on the head.
• Do not Climb on the Statues.
• Refrain from physical contact and public affection.
