Bang Por Beach Samui
Located north-western corner of the island is Bang Por Beach Samui. Nathon to its south and Mae Nam to the east. Sunsets are stunning this side of the Island. Bang Por Beach Samui stretches for four kilometres with views of Koh Phangan. The waters are calm at low tide the ocean retreats considerably. Low tide exposes the rocks on the stretch closest to Nathon. Shallow coral reefs nearby provide excellent snorkelling. Locals can be seen harvesting shellfish at low tide. The beach improves towards the Mae Nam side.
A few high-end hotels such as the Four Seasons. There is very little tourist attraction such as shopping or nightlife. However, the area has recently grown with many quaint beachfront restaurants and bars. There are excellent beachfront seafood restaurants and local Thai-style barbecue eateries making Bang Por a foodie hotspot.
The Ring Road is close to Bang Por Beach Samui with its steep hills. There are fantastic views as you reach the summit of the incline leading towards Nathon. Ferries sail between the mainland and Nathon Pier and occasional naval vessels and cruise liners enter the bay. Several furniture, decor and art shops line the Ring Road in Bang Por. Exploring these as well as a stop in at the shell museum could make for an interesting excursion.
Transport to Bang Por Beach Samui
Songthaews pass through Bang Por along the Ring Road from the ferry terminals in Nathon. Meter taxis and motorbike taxis will be fewer along here as Bang Por is not a tourist hub. If you are looking for a quieter side of the island life then Bang Por Beach Samui is an option. There are few good quality midrange resorts to be found in Bang Por itself but options increase as one nears Mae Nam.
