Lamai Beach Samui

The second largest beach to Chaweng is Lamai Beach Samui. Lying on the south-east coast with Chaweng Noi to its north and Hua Thanon to its south. Lamai Beach Samui is lower key than Chaweng. A popular beach for couples and families. Tattoos are on the beach at Mayan Tattoo Lamai Beach.

Central Lamai Beach Samui is good for swimming. The northern area is prone to mud flats at low tide. Watersports on Lamai Beach are in abundance. Beach massages starting from 250baht are available along the coast of Lamai Beach Samui. The sand is coarse and the beach in good clean order. The beach vendor trawls the beaches all day offering their food and clothes for sale.

Transport

Transport is accessible on the ring road close to the beach. the rental scooters and cars are hired from the numerous shops on the main street of Lamai. The taxis and the songthaews are readily available. Thailands public transport runs at its own timetable.

Food

The coastline of Lamai beach has restaurants and bars dotted along the shore. An assortment of freshly caught fish is served in the restaurants on Lamai Beach. Thai and International food available in Lamai’s restaurants, cafes and bars. Beach vendors with portable barbecues offer hot food cooked in front of you. Vendors with hot doughnuts an array of sweet treats roam the beaches of Lamai.

Accommodation at Lamai Beach Samui

The accommodation is plentiful on the beach of Lamai Koh Samui. The bungalows with terraces lie directly on the beach front from high end to the very basic. Cheap budget accommodation is available all over Lamai. Resorts from 5* to 3* star are popular on Lamai beach. Prices vary from 450 baht a night to as expensive as you wish to pay. Backpackers flock to Lamai for the budget accommodation on offer.

Guan Yu Shrine

Officially opened in January 2016 the Guan Yu Shrine is 16 meters in height. The Big Buddha Statue in Kao Fan is 12 meters and Guan statue 4 meters taller. The Guan statue stands at the same height as the Big Buddha without the pedestal the statue sits on.

Secret Buddha Garden

Designed and built by a Durian farmer Nim Thongsuk. Spending his life farming durian fruit at the age of 77 years he began to build. He was famous in Samui for his durian farming. The gardens began in 1976. He chose to build the gardens for others to have a spiritual place to meditate at one with nature.

Wat Kiri Wongkaram

The monk’s body is displayed in a sealed glass case. The decomposition of the body did not occur after his death and it has remained in a mummified condition for decades. The hair and the fingernails of the mummified Luang Por continue to grow.

Rattanakosin Chedi

Lat Wanon Waterfall

Originally for the eco-tourists, the route to the falls is now abandoned. Parking at the waterfall is at the roadside.
