History of Buddha Footprint Samui

Buddhists in early years believed images of Buddha should be prohibited on religious grounds. Images only of Buddha’s footprint indicating his presence and the spiritual path he left. Buddha’s footprints are engraved with symbols represent aspects of Buddhism. Early Buddhism used symbols left or right facing called Svastikah. The symbol later adopted by Nazi Germany as the swastika. Buddha’s toes are the same length a wheel called dharmachakra in the middle. With the different symbols and distinctive marks, it reflects a chess board pattern. Reclining Buddhas have these on the base of the feet.
