Koh Samui Snake Wildlife Rescue

Koh Samui Snake Wildlife Rescue a nonprofit organisation in Koh Samui. A charity supporting the rescue and release of wild animals in Samui. From the work he does Phil has become known on the island as Phil the snake man. Phil liaises and supports the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand based in Petchaburi Thailand. A foundation rescuing and caring for vulnerable animals. The foundation offers educational programmes and volunteering opportunities highlighting the plight of the animals. Tourism is the biggest threat to the wildlife and the natural environment of this tropical island. As the land is encroached on for resorts, roads and private villas it creates a greater risk of the wildlife clashing with humans.

Rescues

Wildlife finds its way into the homes and business across the island it is part of living on a tropical island. They are unwelcome but removal without harm to the animals or humans is possible. Startled tourists generally panic at the unusual sight, in turn, aggravating the animal into aggression behaviour. The first point of call is Koh Samui Snake Wildlife Rescue. After their capture and health checks, the animals are released into the uninhabited jungle and forest of Koh Samui. Do not attempt to capture wild animals unless you are an experienced handler, leave it to the experts who are trained in this field.

Despite no experience of the commitment to care for a wild animal westerners buy them as pets. The monkeys trapped and chained live in inadequate conditions for a wild animal. They suffer from depression malnutrition and other health-related issues. Westerners return to their home country without a thought for the animals they leave.

The plight of the animals is ignored by tourists for memorable photographs. They are compliant and docile for the tourists because of the treatment they receive by handlers. The animals do not naturally behave this way in the wild.

Treatment of Animals at Koh Samui Snake Wildlife Rescue

The attitudes and treatment of animals in Thailand are not the same as your home country. The veterinary care is sparse in Koh Samui. Programmes are in place to sterilise stray dogs to help slow the increase of dogs on the island. Stray dogs roam the streets covered in mange, sores and ticks. Do not approach stray dogs they can become aggressive.

Wild animals spend most of the day in the heat of the sun paraded on the beaches with no shade. Iguanas, monkeys and parrots pose for tourist photographs as if it was normal for them. The tigers lifeless on soft rugs allow tourists to hold and cuddle them for hours on end. In their natural surroundings, wild animals do not behave this way.
