When to Visit Koh Samui

When to visit Koh Samui? Where else in Thailand to visit? These are a few questions we are going to answer for you here. Thailand is known as an attractive tourist destination throughout the world and Koh Samui is one of the most popular islands for travellers to visit. The country has a lot to offer for the tourists and one such attraction is the islands in Thailand – especially Koh Samui.

Koh Samui’s weather for most of the year is glorious, however, there are some variations that should be noted so that your holiday isn’t ruined by a week of rain. Most guides about Thailand separate the seasons into three; dry season, hot season and rainy season. This is true for areas of Thailand such as Bangkok, but down the south, Koh Samui’s weather can be very different.

Due to its proximity to the equator, the weather is very tropical. The best time on when to visit Koh Samui depends on your personal preference. The fact is, you could visit this island during the wet months and not have a single drop of rain during your entire stay, just as you could have a thunderstorm or two during the dry months. The weather in Koh Samui can be very local. On one part of the island, you could be sunbathing on the beach while on the other side you may have to shelter for a scattered thundershower.

Although there are two main seasons. The temperatures tend to remain fairly constant, averaging between 25-35c. Simply put though, there is not really a bad time to visit Koh Samui.

The Islands

There are many islands in Thailand so it can become difficult for the tourist to select the best island to visit. It all depends on what you’re looking for on your holiday. We highly recommend you visit Koh Samui for an all-around experience of what Thailand has to offer.

And if you have time, take a short boat ride over to the surrounding islands of Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Below are a few other islands that are also worth visiting when you travel to Thailand.

Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi is not just one single island but many islands and the biggest ones are Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh. These islands are pristine in beauty and you can view some wonderful marine life here. The islands became famous after the movie ‘The Beach’ was filmed here. It has now become one of the must visit locations for tourists.

Koh Phangan

This island is the must visit places for many tourists because of the Full Moon Party held here. The south of Koh Phangan is an ideal place for the western tourists who want to let their hair down. If you are looking for some stunning scenery like the sunrise at Thong Nai Pan, then you need to visit the north of the island.

Koh Tao

The island of Koh Tao is smaller when compared to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan but it has its fair share of tourists who prefer to trek in the jungles. Also, tourists who want to scuba dive head to this island for some wonderful diving. There are many beaches too that add to the charm of this tropical island. If you crave a yoga fix, walk into one of the many yoga centres that abound here.

After deciding when to visit Koh Samui, your next decision is how to get there. You can either fly directly to Koh Samui’s airport or fly to Bangkok first. Taking a flight to Bangkok first and staying a day or there is highly recommended. This way you can get to experience Bangkok and even more of what Thailand has to offer.
